I Joined the Technorati Favorites Train

Technorati is a search engine specifically for blogs, but it has some pretty decent personalization features to aggregate your favorite blogs all in one page. It tracks linkage between blogs, and determines a blog’s popularity by various factors. Just yesterday, I discovered the Ultimate Technorati Favorites Exchange by Maki over at Dosh Dosh. It’s an experiment using Technorati favorites to help boost traffic to one’s blog site.

I’m always looking for new ways to generate traffic to this blog, and hopefully this ‘experiment’ will be helpful. For you who are new to this site, please come back regularly as I’m always trying to break the barriers of boredom.

There’s two ways to participate in this social experiment:

1. Exchange Links. You basically “exchange” favorites with other Technorati users, most easily done by clicking on the following link:

Add BecauseIWasBored.com to Technorati Favorites

Then just leave a comment on this page with your username and a link to add your blog, and i’ll return the favor as soon as I can.

I will also exchange StumbleUpon views, or even RSS subscriptions via my Netvibes account, just state it on my comments. I’m not going to be an in/out visitor to your site, I might actually come back and feature certain articles on this blog as well! Everyone wins!

2. You can also link back to this post in your blog and I will then provide a link to your site here in this post.

No, it’s slowed a bit but I still get several new inbound links per day from it. I added 11 outbound links from your list (including you, of course) taking my total to 113 at http://www.foreignperspectives.com/technorati-favourites-exchange/2007/04/11/opinion.htm

In that Technorati have moved the goalposts, I’m not so sure that the favourites exchange itself is of great use anymore but the link exchange is, both for Technorati and google.

I’m also finding that looking at the various sites is proving quite educational and I’ve incorporated a number of great ideas pinched from the “big” sites already with some more in the works.

Actually, I thought that initially it would effectively make the list of posts coming up when I logged into Technorati pretty useless. In practice though I generally find something of interest in the range of blogs that come up now yet ordinarily I’d never have seen them.
